Cornhusker Hotel must pay debt or be auctioned off Feb. 17

The Cornhusker Marriott — a Lincoln institution — may go up for public auction on Feb. 17 unless it comes up with enough money to pay its former management company.
Island Hospitality Management, previous manager of the Cornhusker, is listed in the plaintiff in a legal notice of a Feb. 17 auction at 2 p.m. at the east door of the Justice & Law Enforcement Center at 575 S. 10th St. The defendant is Shubh Hotels Lincoln, which owns the Cornhusker but has lost almost all of its other hotels nationwide due to financial problems.
Island Hospitality recently obtained an $800,000 judgment against Shubh Hotels for unpaid bills and got court approval to garnish rents from office tenants in Cornhusker Plaza, which is attached to the hotel and also owned by Shubh.
Now it appears the hotel could be auctioned off if Shubh doesn’t come up with the money it owes Island Hospitality.
The latest news on the Cornhusker indicated Shubh was paying off some debts — including a state tax lien — and on the verge of settling a claim with Island Hospitality.
The legal notice was published in the Daily Record — a local publication that publishes legal notices.
